There was a short story written based on the Life mgazine article about Charles Schmid, a serial killer in Tucson. The title of the story is "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?" by Joyce Carol Oates. It was published in 1966. This story was the basis of the movie "Smooth Talk, opens a new window" which came out in 1985.
