Sandhill Cranes

These majestic birds can be regularly found in winter in southeastern Arizona. One of the most convenient places to view them is in the Sulphur Springs Valley around the Willcox Playa. The annual Wings over Willcox, opens a new window festival attracts visitors from all over the world.

For general information about these birds see Arizona Game and Fish Department Sandhill Crane, opens a new window.

You may also spot Sandhill Cranes on the drive along highway I-10 between Tucson and Phoenix. Usually, these birds will be in the Gila River bed. Also, these birds are sometimes seen in Tucson and Pima County, most likely in Silverbell Lake at the Christopher Columbus regional park.
