Dr. Douglas H. Lindsey, a Tucson surgeon, was the model for the character Sherman Potter in the M*A*S*H books and series. Dr. Lindsey was a commander of six M*A*S*H units during the Korean War. Dr. Richard Hooker, author of the M*A*S*H series of books, knew and worked for Dr. Lindsey. The series was turned into a film and became a long-running TV show.
Dr. Lindsey downplayed the reports that he was the model for Sherman Potter. Dr. Douglas H. Lindsey died January 1, 2005 in Tucson.
