Dear Ravenous Readers,
I’m trying to become a better reader, but can’t seem to get through a book these days. A friend of mine suggested that I try reading graphic novels. Which ones would you recommend to me? I’m particularly interested in nonfiction. Are there any graphic novels that are memoirs or biographies?
Thanks for any suggestions you can give me,
Reader Wannabe
Dear Reader Wannabe,
Graphic novels are a great choice! The artwork really enhances the story, and really gets you interested in the storyline.
Since you’re interested in biographies and memoirs, I recommend the following titles:
This autobiographical graphic novel chronicles the life of the author and her relationship with her dysfunctional family, particularly her father.
This graphic novel is about the life of Cass Elliot, who became famous as part of the Mamas and the Papas.
This book is about an 18 year old girl who moves away from home to go to art school. Parts of the novel are lists that the author made (both hand and type written)
This book tells the story of Marjane Satrapi, an Iranian woman who grew up during the Islamic Revolution in Tehran, Iran. You can learn a lot of history through reading this book.
You can always do an online search for more graphic novels by just typing "non fiction graphic novels" into the catalog search bar on the library website.
Good luck and happy reading!
