Three Books on a Theme: Childhood memories, adult horrors

Sometimes things you remember from your childhood don’t hold up well as you grow up. These novels take something that folks commonly experience in their childhood and twist them into something truly horrifying.


Hide

Hide and seek is a favorite for children, but this novel puts a horrific twist on the game. It starts with a hide and seek competition amongst 14 adults in an abandoned amusement park, but what happens when you’re found? And what are those inhuman noises moving throughout the park? Come out, come out, wherever you are!


Starling House

Opal loved this book since she was child. Sure, the artwork is creepy, but that’s part of its charm. She should feel lucky when she gets hired to take care of the long-missing author’s home, but it doesn’t take long for her to realize that there’s more to the story than just simple fairytales.


How to Sell A Haunted House

In the words of the great RuPaul Charles “Everybody loves puppets!” and when you think back, you probably remember The Muppets, Sesame Street, and Mr. Rogers Neighborhood fondly. The puppets in this story aren’t like those puppets. The person who loved them isn’t around anymore and they’re struggling to cope.
