Margaret Wise Brown (1910-1952) wrote over 100 books for children and was recognized as one of the leading children's book author's of her time. Since her death, over 60 years ago, many of her classics remain in print today.
Perhaps best known are Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny, both illustrated by Clement Hurd. A treasure of her unpublished manuscripts, poems, and song lyrics was discovered by Amy Gary, editor of the Margaret Wise Brown Estate, several years ago. A collection of these poems & lyrics was recently published with illustrations by a dozen award-winning picture book artists.
Goodnight Songs includes an accompanying CD which will sooth your little one at bedtime. Two of my favorite's from the sound recording are "Wooden Town" and "Little Donkey Close Your Eyes." You might try listening to one song per night and following along in the book. The illustrations are captivating, colorful, and quite charming.
