What is the first song you remember in this life?

She Loves You by The Beatles… it is the first memory I have from when I was 5 years old, dancing to She Loves You for my grandma in Peru. I’m 54 now, and last year, I wrote a song called Fifties Today, which actually mentions this very memory.

If you could have dinner with an artist who has passed, who would it be?

John Lennon… most of my life, I have loved and admired The Beatles, my youngest son’s middle name is Lennon. I would love to pick his brain with many questions about music, life, peace and love.

If you could recruit anybody you wanted to be in your band, who would it be?

Paul McCartney, but I would settle with the many amazing musicians here in Tucson!!!!

What song makes you want to cry?

In My Life by The Beatles

On your death bed, what would be the last song you listen to?

In My Life by The Beatles

What song motivates you?

In My Life by the Beatles

If you could give your genre of music a new name, what would it be?

Here’s a problematic question. I don’t have a particular genre, I was born and raised in Peru, but by anyone’s standards, I would have had to grow up with salsa, cumbia or one of those genres with more “Latin-ness." However, many of us in Latin America grew up loving rock’s greatest, from Elvis to Led Zeppelin, and more. So when I write my songs, I allow myself to write freely and without a genre in mind and so I have ballads, pop songs, reggae, salsa, cumbia, etc under my musical belt. 😊

Who's your musical GOAT?

The Beatles for songwriting and Elvis Presley for showmanship

What is your favorite lyric of all time?

In My Life by the Beatles

Use five words to describe your music.

Personal, Public, Life, Peace, and Love

Do you love or hate Phil Collins’ In The Air Tonight?

Love the song all around

What song on eternal repeat would you wish for your nemesis?

Bidi Bidi Boring (aka Bidi Bidi Bom Bom)

Do you have a song you love from another generation?

I’m not too keen to music from newer generations. I love delta blues, 50s rock and roll, 60s rock, 70s rock and disco, 80s all around, and some 90s.

What's the best concert you ever attended?

In Peru, there was (still is) a rock band called Fragil. I saw them when I was a kid and that lit up a light in my heart for music, although I didn’t really become a musician until I moved to Tucson in my 40s. BUT best concert(s) I've attended are Paul McCartney (a few times) and Ringo Starr!!!!

Who would you collaborate with?

Anyone and everyone, if they liked my input/music.

Who do you regret not seeing in concert?

Michael Jackson and Prince ☹ ☹
