If you haven’t yet read The New Jim Crow, The Hate U Give, or Me and White Supremacy, now is your chance! OverDrive is offering the Black Lives Matter Community Read, opens a new window, where a certain selection of books are available to check out anytime. These titles are focused on #ownvoices and are intended to help us all read, listen, learn and grow as we expand their knowledge of race relations. Right now, you can read or listen to these books:
- The New Jim Crow, opens a new window by Michelle Alexander (audiobook available through July 15)
- The Hate U Give, opens a new window by Angie Thomas (ebook and audiobook available through July 19)
- Me and White Supremacy, opens a new window by Layla Saad (ebook available through July 12)
- So You Want to Talk about Race by Ijeoma Oluo (audiobook available through July 26)
There will be others in the future, and hopefully we can continue this conversation. But don't wait for these, as they're only available for a few more weeks!
Of course, reading is just the beginning, opens a new window. Check out the Library’s Black Lives Matter page, opens a new window for more tools for learning and to see more about how you can get involved in actions for racial justice and equality.
