Art Exhibit ~ Sharon Davis

Joel D. Valdez Main Library invites you to an exhibit by local artist Sharon Davis, on display until December 31, 2024.

Artist Statement:

Sweeping landscapes, trees, flowers, animals, rivers, stones - all nature beings that are the core of my artwork. As an artist, I am inspired by the nature around me, my own spiritual relationship with nature beings, and the planet itself. Living in Tucson, Arizona, my art is heavily influenced by the rugged landscapes of the Southwest, as well as the deep greens and lush forests of the Southeastern USA where I grew up.

When choosing what to paint, I will visit a place or plant repeatedly, getting to know it and befriend it, sometimes making several small sketches or paintings outdoors. Back in my studio, I will create my finished painting using photos I took on my previous excursions into nature along with my memory of the colors and energy of the place. I paint the “person” and “soul” in the rocks, plants, animals, and places.
