Art Exhibit ~ Marianne Rowe

Kirk-Bear Canyon Library invites you to an exhibit by local artist Marianne Rowe, on display until January 31, 2025. Migration is a paintings series about migrations of our species - as well as other species - and barriers posed by the landscape of politics.

Artist Statement:

The focus of my work is the landscape and the tension created by our participation as both co-creators and disruptors. I illustrate this dynamic, in particular, in the politically and economically generated migrations of peoples who are then impeded by barriers, both natural and man- made. The heat of the sun, flooding, and fire serve as metaphors for the supportive power of nature as well as its destructive potential. The figures, alone or in small groups, are iconic--of no particular ethnicity, nor from specific areas of global conflict. They are intended to reflect the terror and isolation that accompanies the forced migrations of the 21st Century due to wars and climate change. Each painting is a composite of color, texture, composition and medium that constructs a particular narrative. As such, these paintings explore the conflation of beauty and destruction that characterizes our time.
