Art Exhibit ~ Ibrahim Khazzaka

Eckstrom-Columbus Library invites you to view an exhibit by local artist Ibrahim Khazzaka, on display until August 31, 2024.

These symbolic expressionist sculptures are from my show titled "At the Gate of Dawn" that was exhibited last year at the State University of New York, New Paltz. When I think of my studio practice, I think of how working with a versatile material such as clay is an opportunity for me to reflect on who I am as an individual, and the places I live in. Having lived in different places makes me believe that innovation happens at the border of culture and that risking one's comfort zone is necessary for any creative undertaking.

Artist statement:

I am a Lebanese transnational artist who uses different hand-building and slip-casting ceramic techniques to form sculptures, with vivid colors, and installations that draw the viewer in and reflect on notions of affection, sensuality, and belonging.  After a career in clinical psychology, behavioral therapy, and education in Lebanon, Dubai, and Los Angeles, I moved to NYC in 2018 where I switched to focusing on developing my studio practice. In 2023 I earned my MFA from the State University of New York, New Paltz. I now live and work in Tucson, Arizona.
