Kirk-Bear Canyon Library invites you to exhibit by local artist Deborah Goalby, on display until November 30.
Artist Statement:
In July 1998 1 was selected by Pima County Library Call to Artists to exhibit my artwork at the Joel Valdez Main Library. Ironically, after decades' absence from creative endeavors, in November 2023 I submitted my recent art, ceramic and mixed media, and again showed at the main library June 2024!
I have a BS in Art Education, 1974 from Northwest MO State University and a MS in Secondary Art Education/Ceramics, 1976 from Southern IL University, with instruction from artist in residence, Joan Tweedy of Alfred University and SIU's Jack Cannon and Dan Anderson. From 1975-1986 I taught art in Illinois before moving to Arizona. Green Valley Recreation hired me as studio supervisor and instructor at the pottery studio, teaching wheel-throwing and hand-building classes 1988-1989. In 1990 I supervised Sunday open studio at Randolph Park, City of Tucson Parks & Recreation and taught wheel-throwing at the new Udall Park clay studio. After working in workforce development and academia at the University of Arizona and Northern Arizona University 2001-2012 I retired, relocating to Green Valley in 2017. I had come full circle geographically and creatively, and as a member and instructor at the GVR Clay Club.
In 2023 I created my first mixed media piece and since have explored composition and design using found and recycled objects. As a result I have created a 'Carport Gallery' and since November 23 submitted and was selected by the following calls to artists: Tucson Community Campus, ASU's Watts College of Public Service & Community Solutions spring semester 2024; 'Thunderdomicity', Vermillion, SD May 2024; Laguna Beach Art Gallery, Laguna Beach, CA June 24; Tubac Center for the Arts Open Members Show recently; and currently Yavapai College Wabi-Sabi call, where my clay triptych "Fractured" was awarded first prize.
