If you like comics and manga, you should check out Polly and the Pirates. Yeah, I know - ninjas aren't supposed to like pirates. But I have a soft spot for pirates, especially pirate chicks who kick... body parts. And prim and proper Polly is in for a shock when she discovers that her mother was one of those pirate chicks.
Of course there's an adventure with a lost treasure map and rival pirates and the navy. But really, I just like watching Polly turn pirate and outsmart everyone. I also adore the way Polly is drawn, tiny and round-faced, the total opposite of the usual comic book heroine.
The author and artist, Mr. Ted Naifeh, is also responsible for the delightful Courtney Crumrin series, which those of you who have a fondness for stories about things that go bump in the night will also enjoy.
